​The Medtronic ACT Plus® System is a microprocessor-controlled electromechanical coagulation instrument designed to determine coagulation endpoints in fresh and citrated whole blood samples. It is commonly used in settings such as cardiovascular and vascular surgery, ECMO, cardiac catheterization laboratories, critical care units, and hemodialysis units. ​

ACT Plus® Disposable Test Cartridges:

The system utilizes single-use cartridges available in various configurations to monitor heparin therapy effectively. Below are the primary cartridge types:​

1. High Range Activated Clotting Time (HR-ACT) Cartridge:

   • Purpose: Designed for use with fresh whole blood samples in cardiovascular surgery, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), or vascular surgery.​
   • Packaging: Typically supplied in boxes containing 50 cartridges.
   • Product Code: 402-03. ​

2. Low Range Activated Clotting Time (LR-ACT) Cartridge:

   • Purpose: Suitable for therapeutic heparin monitoring, post-angioplasty, or dialysis using fresh whole blood
   • Packaging: Available in boxes of 50 cartridges.​
   • Product Code: 402-01. ​

3. Heparinase Test Cartridge (HTC):

   • Purpose: Used to identify the presence of heparin in a patient's blood sample.
